Kisa Whipkey is a dark fantasy author, a martial arts demo team expert, and a complete sucker for Cadbury Mini-eggs. She's also the Acquisitions & Editorial Director for YA/NA publisher, REUTS Publications. She developed a passion for storytelling at a young age and has pursued that love through animation, writing, video game design and demo teams until finally finding her home in editing. She believes in good storytelling, regardless of medium, and applauds anything featuring a snarky lead character, a complicated narrative structure, and brilliant/uncommon analogies. Currently, she lives in the soggy Pacific Northwest with her husband and plethora of electronics.
For ShoreIndie 2017, Kisa is excited to accept...
YA, NA, or A manuscripts up to 100k words in the following categories:
- Fantasy (including High, Dark, Contemporary, Urban, Magical Realism, etc.)
- Science Fiction (including Space Opera, Dystopian, Science Fantasy, etc.)
- Romance (Historical, Paranormal, Contemporary, and Romantic Suspense only)
- Thriller/Suspense (Including psychological, procedural, etc.)
- Undefinable cross-genre that doesn't fit neatly into any established genre box
I have knowledge of a vast array of genres and sub-genres, but to catch my eye, you'll need fresh, intriguing concepts, exciting plots with high emotional resonance, characters who are human and flawed, and a voice that grips me from the first page and refuses to let go. I'm a sucker for cinematic flair and fairy tale feels, and complicated narrative structures are my forte. Throw in a dash of snark or sarcasm, and I'll be hard-pressed to say no.
